Footprints in the sand

One night I had a dream: I dreamed that I was walking on the beach with God and the firmament scenes of my life passed by. After each scene passing, I realized that two pairs of footprints were left in the sand: one was me, the other of God.

When the last scene of my life was revealed in front of us, I noticed that many times there was only one pair of footprints in the sand on my life. I also noted that these were the most difficult and most frightening moments of my life. This frightened me and I asked God:

"Lord, You told me that after I had decided to follow you, you would be with me always, in all my ways. But I noticed that I can only see one pair of footprints in the sand during the worst storms of my life. I do not understand why You, in the times when I would have needed You most I was alone." God answered:

"My beloved child, I never left you in the hour of trial and suffering. As you discovered only a few footprints in the sand, as it were mine. It is precisely then I had you on my chest lifted up and carried you."
